How Did You Break Into The Industry / Your First Job
While in college I participated in AAF Advertising Competitions and that's where I started to see how integrating both design and marketing cohesively works together throughout a campaign. Before having my first career I started helping non-profit organizations, businesses, and individuals with bringing their vision to life through visual design and ways to build awareness in the community. The first opportunity I received was a graphic design internship with the Children's Museum of Houston and there I learned not only how to improve my design skills but how to work with other teams within the company so I had a chance to experience the perspective of other individuals in various industries.
Long Term Career Goal
My long term career goal is to work in an industry where I can continue to gain knowledge from the people I'm surrounded by. Honestly, I would like to one day own a multi-faceted visual company where individuals I will open an apprenticeship program for people who are interested in pursuing a certain field. Why? Once, I made the decision that I wanted to pursue design and marketing I found it difficult to get into the industry because of lack of in-house experience plus not knowing where to go or knowing somebody that could point me in the direction to immerse myself in an environment to learn and see if this design was even an option for myself. I would like to break the glass ceiling for the definition of a designer and help people see how crucial it is to have people like myself setting the tone for the upcoming generation in this industry.
