How Did You Break Into The Industry / Your First Job
My first job in the industry was a College Marketing Representative for Sony Music Entertainment. It came as a total surprise to me after a period of uncertainty about my future. I switched my major from Early Childhood Education due to a lack of passion and received heavy backlash from my parents due to the "lack of stability" in the industry I am pursuing. I dug myself out of a hole by applying for jobs on that were local for the music industry in St. Louis. I was well aware of the lack of opportunity for the music industry in my city and contemplated on dropping out of college to move elsewhere. Upon my job search, I came across a position for an indie-label looking for a marketing representative to stay local in St Louis. I applied for a position and did not expect much in return. I just wanted to gain experience and get my foot in the door. It turns out that the label was actually owned by Sony Music Entertainment and that the post was put up as an indie label to disguise the company. Speaking with the employers, I was told that this method attracts people who are really passionate about the industry and not just attaching a well known name on their resume. I received a call for an interview in September 2012, and made it to the second and final interview later that month. I was officially hired by the company October 1st, 2012 and stayed in the college marketing program until I graduated. It was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. - T. Pratt
Long Term Career Goal
My ultimate career goal is to become a product manager in the entertainment industry on a mainstream level. I am very passionate about helping brands succeed, and creating memorable marketing experiences. I am now seeking full time employment in the field of music, radio, or television.
